Camp Chippewa Foundation recently experienced a data breach, impacting the personal information of individuals associated with the organization. The breach was identified when suspicious activity was detected in an employee’s email account. The foundation acted swiftly to secure its email environment and employed cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident. As a result, the personal information of 280 individuals, including one resident of Maine, was potentially exposed.
What Happened
Camp Chippewa recently identified suspicious activity associated with one of our employee’s email accounts. We took immediate steps to secure our email environment and launched an investigation, aided by outside cybersecurity experts, to determine what happened and whether any sensitive information may have been affected. Our investigation determined that an unknown actor gained access to the account between May 1 – 23, 2025 and potentially downloaded certain emails and files. Following a comprehensive review of the mailbox, which concluded on September 15, 2025, we determined that your personal information may have been impacted in connection with this incident.
The breach affected personal information, including names, Social Security numbers, and health-related data. The incident occurred between May 1 and May 23, 2025, and was discovered on September 15, 2025.

Individuals affected by the breach are encouraged to take proactive measures to safeguard their personal information. Reviewing account statements and credit reports for suspicious activity is recommended. Any detected fraudulent activity should be promptly reported to financial institutions, law enforcement authorities, or the Federal Trade Commission. Camp Chippewa has notified the impacted individuals via written communication and provided detailed guidance on how to protect their information further.
Identity Theft Protection Services
Camp Chippewa is offering affected individuals complimentary identity theft protection services. These services include 12 months of Single Bureau Credit Monitoring, Credit Reports, and Credit Scores provided by Cyberscout, a TransUnion company. The services include proactive fraud assistance and access to a call center for support. Affected individuals are encouraged to enroll in these services within 90 days of receiving the notification letter to benefit from these protective measures.
