What Happened
On or about September 12, 2025, Etaxservice learned of suspicious activity related to a firm tax service account and promptly took measures to mitigate the risk of further activity. Etaxservice launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party technology specialists to determine the nature and scope of the activity. The investigation determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to an Etaxservice service account between June 20, 2025, and September 12, 2025, and may have accessed and/or acquired certain files within the account. Etaxservice initiated a comprehensive review of the potentially impacted files to determine what information was at issue and to whom the information relates. On October 6, 2025, Etaxservice completed this review and determined that personal information related to certain individuals was included in the files. The information that could have been subject to unauthorized access includes name and Social Security number.
The breach primarily affected individuals whose personal information was stored within the compromised accounts. The incident was identified on October 6, 2025, and those affected were notified of the potential exposure of their personal data.
