Upon learning of that unauthorized activity, MVA took immediate action to contain the incident and began an investigation with the assistance of outside cybersecurity experts. The investigation determined that an unauthorized actor accessed MVA’s systems for approximately twenty minutes on August 15, 2025, and acquired copies of certain files. MVA reviewed the files involved and, on September 3, 2025, determined that they contained the name and Social Security number of four (4) Maine residents.

Impacted individuals can enroll in this service at no cost and without affecting their credit score. Additionally, Experian’s Identity Restoration specialists are available to assist with any credit or non-credit related fraud issues for one year from the date of the notification letter.
